The Planetary Health Alliance
Duncan Thomas, Norb F. Schaefer Professor of International Studies, is a professor of economics, global health and public policy at Duke University and director of the development economics program at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Using large-scale population-based longitudinal studies designed in collaboration with Elizabeth Frankenberg and others, he investigates the inter-relationships between health, human capital and socio-economic status highlighting the roles that individual, family and community factors play including the impact of local area environmental shocks and natural disasters.
“Scientific collaboration that spans the disciplines is critical for building the credible evidence base necessary to take the urgent actions that will successfully solve the vexing and pressing problems facing global health and development. PHA is ideally-suited to be the catalyst to improve the health and well-being of populations across the globe in a sustained and sustainable way.”
